Dude what kind of man are you? Pushing Daisies and Desperate Housewives? That's not dude tv, that's middle aged womens TV.
Pfft. DW is the only show I can think of that hasn't had a single bad season. It's funny, compelling, mysterious and very dark when it has to be.
PD's couldn't be any more perfect if it had Anna Friel in...oh and it has!
Okay back to Heroes! I saw the first episode on BBC2 Wednesday and then flicked over to BBC4 to watch the 2nd one then watched the 3rd episode on the internet. I liked the first two episode, but the 3rd one was off. Rather than write a huge review I'm going to copy the template of a weekly wrestling review I read and say what's good, what's bad and what's just plain stupid.
SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST 3 EPISODES!The Good!DaphneWow fancy this- a new character appears with a new power!!! And this one doesn't suck! After using up most of the good powers in season on (flight, invisibility, telepathy etc) they seemed to have run out of good ideas and kept recycling powers, but not here. Daphne as a 'speeder' (basically like The Flash) is awesome. Great power and she has the charisma to match. The best new 'hero' since Elle.
Meredith's backClaire's mum returned, which is a great thing as I love her power. Who wouldn't want to be able to summon fire whenever they want. Plus there is something really cool about her, I think she may have a dark side hidden beneath her cute trailer park trash persona. Hopefully anyway because there can never be too many hot psycho pyromaniac women on TV.
Hiro & AndoEveryone likes these two and they are so much better as a double act. The flash forward along with Daphne's snide 'Robin' remarks adds a lot of tension between these two too.
Nikki's deadI don't mind Nikki at all, but it's nice to know that when a character dies, they stay dead. For once. I miss DL though.
The So-So!Mohinder's turn to the dark sideGreat storyline this. Mo spends two years tracking down heroes only to eventually think- 'Why should they have all the fun?' and inject himself with a serum to get powers. Only this goes horribly wrong!!!!! Who'd have thought that?!! Well everyone actually, because that
always happens in comics. But that's why I liked it- it recalls the origins of classic Marvel Spider-Man villains like Lizard that it fits in perfectly. My only problem is that it happened too soon. There should have been a few episodes of Mo slowly turning evil before injecting the serum and then a few more until he slowly mutates. But oh well.
Elle's alive!Phew, I really thought Sylar was going to kill her and I was screaming "No!" at the TV, but for once the Heroes writers came to their senses and didn't kill her. Bob's dead though, a big shame that. Also Kirsten Bell is no longer a main cast member, which also sucks.
The Haitian & HRGThe Haitian is awesome. He has so much screen presence that every single time he appears on the scene it's a great moment and is exchange with HRG- Mr. Bennet was cool too. Bennett is another great character too and never bores me at all.
That new black villain dude.....While the break-out of Primatech Paper was handled terribly the one good thing to come from it was that black dude who's name I don't know. The guy who 'uses people's fears against them'. That power is such a cool concept that he could become an actual scary guy, a rarity in Heroes, to match Maury and season 1 Sylar.
Nikki's twin?Well it's not Nikki's twin Jessica though that would have been the best way to keep Ali Larter on the cast since they seem to love er for some reason.
Partman in Africa?Riiiiiiiight.....this is odd. Let's see where it's going.
The Bad!ClaireI hate her. Last season she was awful and that ruined her as a character for me, but it seems she is still annoying here and continues to be a weak aspect of the show.
SylarEnough already- why is he still alive? He should have been killed off ages ago and hasn't been entertaining at all since the end of Season 1. The whole scene between him and Claire is completely retarded- the way he ended the 'Sylar eats brains' theory was cool however. Why did Sylar even bother with the stuggle between him and Claire? He has so many powers that it have been oh so easy. Rather than simply use telekinesis he could have used his super-hearing to try and find her or maybe his power to melt objects to help. But worst of all why didn't he disguise himself as Claire's mum/dad using Candice's power and then simply freeze her with the ice? So dumb.
Also how did he find Claire in the first place?! Unless he killed Molly maybe?
PeterLike Sylar he is simply too powerful now. The end of season 2 was a key example where the writers forget that he has powers that would be better suited to situations. He tries using his telekinesis power to open a door when he could have just walked through it or even teleported inside. Him and Sylar are too powerful and create giant plot-holes wherever they go and sadly them, like Claire, are immortal now. Damn.
The same powersWhat happened? In Season One EVERY character had their own power and they all seemed very cool. Then in season 2 we met West, who had Nathan's power and Maury who had Partman's. This year however we have met a 2nd person who can control fire, a second person with the power of ice, the new African guy with the power to paint the future ala' Isaac and that German dude- who's magnet power was just like telekinesis. It may have been cool, but he's dead already. Bringing in somebody with the same power doesn't feel at all special and almost devalues them. It's bad enough with Sylar and Peter stealing people's powers without them being recycled.
Time travelI admit when they do episodes in the past or future it's really cool. But they never ever make sense and just confuse people constantly. I am still waiting for Peter to go back into the future and rescue the Irish girl......or maybe that future no longer exists?.....I have no idea.....Peter doesn't give a crap about her anyway.
The Ridiculous! Nathan finds god....and imaginary friends.AND HE'S STILL ALIVE! What the hell is going on?
Sylar PetrelliNo need for this at all! Why didn't Angela tell somebody about this sooner? 'Dear Sylar I am your mother, so would you please stop trying to kill my grand daughter? Thanks alot dear xxx'
The Even More Ridiculous! Peter (again?) trapped inside that other dudeWell this is the single most retarded thing EVER! Future Peter traps present Peter inside a bald psycho for protection? What part of that makes any kind of sense? I have been trying to wrap my head around that for ages, but that would be mean spending more time thinking about it than the writers.
Hmmm, notice that all the bad moments seem to involve Peter, Nathan, Angela, Claire and Sylar? I wonder if there is anything connecting them at all?
