sure it can worse than last season; we only had to suffer through 12 episodes of crap rather than a full season. Ok... well thats true enough, but I dont think it is ever going to return to the glory of the first season. How often do shows produce better seasons after the first?

24, Alias, Dexter, Desperate Houseweives, Prison Break (season 2 was equally as good imo), Buffy.

IMO, it's hard for a show to produce better material then what they started out with because writers hardly map out a quality map for the show. They have no idea when or how long their show will last. The first season is filled with brand new ideas which are hard to top in the up coming seasons. It can be done but I'm saying it's really hard to do. I think a show can still be great even if it's isn't as good as it was the first season.
I'm not backing up heroes here cause I think this show is complete shit right now, but i'm just saying from a general standpoint.

Well you are right, usually the first season is the best. But with Season 2 all the characters have been established so there is none of the annoying getting to know them phase and it should be a more entertaining premise. Alias season 2 for instance was all-out action, but with a brand new main character who was only mentioned in the first season. Also half-way through they turned the entire show on it's head....a moment that would end up ruining the show, but whatever...
Dexter season 2 was great as he wasn't trying to track down another killer, but the killer everyone was after was him, so we ended up getting to know him better all the while being on the edge of our seats. Plus the brought in a fit new woman with a sexy posh British accent who was naked for much of the season. That never hurts.
The few where the first season isn't the best are the exception to the rules though.

For me, Shows with seasons better than the first; Dexter (ten fold, i wasn't into 1st season, love 2nd and 3rd), Smallville, Scrubs, The Office, Stargate, Stargate Atlantis, Arrested Development, Dead Like Me, South Park (all animated shows, really, but SP is just ridiculously better), Supernatural
For me, Shows with first season as the best; Californication (current season is good, but 1st was phenominal), Heroes, 24 and The OC.

It's been 20 minutes into this weeks episodes. my big, big frustrations listed thus far;
1) Sylar got lighter fluid on a deserted island. Where? 2) Sylar gets off deserted island. How? 3) Sylar going all whining step-kid "you're not my real dad!" on the phone with Arthur. 4) Claire's mom lets a total stranger handle her child and change the diaper. 5) how the fuck did Claire's mom get Claire in such a short amount of time, and take her out to go get groceries? 6) Nathan's taking over of Pinehearst, what an arrogant douchbag.
40 minutes into it, what i've loooveed 1) The scene with Hiro and his mother. Truely touching, brought tears to the eye. Best scene of the season, possibly the series. 2) The Catalyst. It made me happy with what they did and made me laugh at past catalyst thinking. 3) Noah having a ridiculously good common sense and commanding the scene with Claire screwing around with the past. He tells off his wife for leaving the child alone with a stranger and calls Claire out on her weak lie. Way to go Noah.
I did hate his scene after telling off claire though.

That was the best episode of the season, largely due to Hiro's storyline in it...Finally he's gotten his memory back and we can enjoy the best character in the series again...even if he is "lost in time".
The actor who portrays Arthur actually outshined everyone in the episode as far as bad acting goes in the roof scene (and this was a scene that included Hayden Panettiere, let's not forget). My God, what a robot. Glad to see that bullet hit its mark.
Also: Oh no, the Marine gets super strength. I bet that goes well. Sylar can now channel his inner Maury Povich. "Arthur [long pause] you're NOT the father!"

I just watched the second episode of The Eclipse. I liked it a lot. But first of all- Elle that was so sad. I loved her character. Her and Sylar would have been so great if they were both out-and-out bad guys. Could have been an awesome dark comic duo. They get sent on missions to locate people with powers and Elle is all "damnit Sylar, you killed another one!" "I can't help it!- It's the HUNGER!" I loved the Baron Samedi reference, that was great. The whole plot didn't really do it for me, but the bit where he heals (yes..... another healer) all zombie like was cool. I saw it coming with the name Baron Samedi, but sometimes it's good to be right. I didn't mind Nathan's heel turn at the end, but I wish SOMEONE would just stick to being good or evil. (Also just when did Peter turn into Jack Bauer) I guess we now know Sylar is evil again, which is a shame as they've pretty much done all the can with him and we know he'll have to turn good again to fit in with Peter's vision of the future. Claire dying was so boring and pointless, but Hiro saving them at the end- great. I don't quite get where the storyline with him and Claire is going, but yeah. Partman/Daphne was pretty good this week and I liked the Mohinder/Flint scenes. Flint using a lighter rather than fire to burn Mohinder was terrific writing, for once. But I just LOVED the comic book store scenes! They were brilliant! And the casting of Seth Green was inspired! Best. Scene. Ever Oh yeah, as Somar said- the scenes with the actual eclipse will have scientists up in arms. 1 eclipse that can be seen around the world!? TWO total eclipses in 2 years?! Eclipses that last hours? And worst of all is that every character looks at it without being blinded.

I just saw the last episode today and thought Sylar was amazing in it. I thought all his scenes were great. I especially loved when the co-workers walked in and he turned around and said "ooo, cake" and the scene in the elevator when he said "It does tingle a bit." I dunno I thought it was funny.
What I hate about this show is when I start thinking about it. When you just watch and not think it’s enjoyable but after the show I started to think and got all pissed off. I mean if Arthur didn’t have his powers because the Haitian was around but once the Haitian leaves wouldn’t he obtain his powers again? Thus coming back to life?
Also how was Sylar able to have his powers with the Haitian in the room?
I look too deep into this show sometimes I guess…

The show has set the precedent that something penetrating the brain will kill a hero with healing powers. Claire died when some dude tried to rape her and she fell onto a stick, and Peter was killed by Sylar when they had one of their mini-showdowns in Mohinder's place and got stabbed in the brain with glass.
The reason Sylar's powers worked near the haitin was because Arthur was "too strong" and was somehow exhausting the haitin to the point he no longer could get rid of powers. This is evident when Arthur used his telekinisis and slashes peter's face, and when the haitin says "i can't do it anymore he's too strong." How Arthur nullifies hsi power, i don't know, but it answers the question as to why Sylar could use his.

I think it was mentioned a couple of episodes back that the Haitian has to focus his energies on whoever he wants to supress, rather than it being like an aura. However this seems to go against various sequences in the first series where he was more like an ability damping aura. So... I dont know

Just saw the episode in question. It was alright. I was thinking that Sylar is officially past the point of me ever liking him again. If he ever turns good I won't ever buy it now as he has killed far too many people that I liked- Isaac, Eden, Elle, Charley, Bob, Ted etc. But then he kills Arthur so it almost balances out as he was a terrible character- both in the fact that he was a bad person and that he was badly written.
The bit in the lift was indeed great. Shame he had to gain yet ANOTHER power though. And he killed that girl on her birthday- just like he did to Charley. Man he's mean. How did he find that lie detector girl though? Elle's phone? So while I will never accept Sylar as a hero, he could be an awesome tweener. Not wanting to change or save the world just wanting to kill people.
I will also never accept Nathan as a good guy either now. He's gone too far bad for me to ever forgive him. Mohinder's still alright, I am liking his transformation and Ali Larter is decent as a power-seeking whore. Pretty sexy too.
I didn't really enjoy or like the whole catalyst thing and sadly it has ended with Hiro losing his powers. The scene with him and his mother was very good, I kept expecting Kaito to walk in and be like "WTF you doing with my wife!?" I wasn't too sure why Claire didn't just tell HRG the truth, I reckon he would have bought it.

So what did people think on how season 3 ended?

Volume 4 started alright. I liked it, save for the scenes with Claire. She irritates me greatly now, "omg i KNOW sylar is still out there, i can FEEL it in my bones." yeah, just like how you could feel you were the catalyst, right? Also, the not-so subtle guantamino bay allusion is a couple years too late.
But I liked Peter struggling without being able to use his powers, i enjoyed the change in Ando having powers and Hiro being the sidekick, Sylar was badass when he used multiple powers to own the gitmo swat team, and HRG siding with Nathan was pure awesome and gives him reason to be on the show again.
