Oh yeah, Frenzy is great too. I forgot about that one. The scene where he pries the pin from the dead guys hands is immense! So I have watched a few films over this festive period. My Fair LadyThe films on TV have bean crap compared to most years. Only a few genuine classics have been on and this was probably the best. Favourite scene: Probably the ending line- "Where the devil are my slippers?" ***** Iron ManI only saw the first 3/4's sadly, but it looked very good. Robert Downer Jr. is instantly like able in this role. I probably enjoyed this more than any other superhero film without the word "Bat" in the title. Favourite scene: Iron Man vs the airplanes. He's just a very cool superhero...surprising how they aren't many cool heroes around. *** Batman Dark KnightI caught the 2nd half o this yesterday. It's still holds up second time round Favourite scene: The magic trick. ***** Pirates Of The Caribbean 2I love this film. For me it's equally as enjoyable as the first and the narrative holds up much better than the 3rd. Favourite Scene: The three-way sword fight. Why oh why did they kill off Norrington in the 3rd film so early! What a waste! **** Swiss Family RobinsonI saw this Disney film at school years ago and liked it. Then bought it on video soon after. I haven't seen in it years, it was enjoyable, but not great. Favourite scene: The Home-Alone type ending where they protect the mountain from the pirates I loved as a kid and thought it was hilarious. It doesn't hold up now... ***

Just watched Legends Of The Fall again. Awesome film. Splendid cinematography and performances by Pitt, Quinn and Hopkins. This film passed me by upon it's release, I believed it to be some sort of historical romantic melodrama, but it's way more than that. It's immense really, like a tragic saga. It's definitely worth a look if you were expecting something totally different to what it actually is, and so made the mistake of avoiding it like I did.

Ok , I’ve seen a couple of movies this past week….
First at the movie theater I saw Yes Man and Marley and Me….
I actually enjoyed Yes Man. The trailers looked very dull and un funny but I thought the movie was quite entertaining and thus doing what movies should do. The ending however was complete shit and while comedy or not very bad writing. It was unrealistic and very unbelievable. You end up getting the girl but it felt like Carey’s character kinda forced himself on the girl to get back into a relationship thus seeming like rape. Very romantic <3
***
Marley and Me was okay, obviously not my choice and while they milked the ending with everyone in the theater crying their eyes out I left the theater crying at Owen Wilson’s horrible acting (again)….
**
Recently on HBO I came across this movie called the Legend of Bagger Vance….
It stars Matt Damon, Will Smith, and some hot chick….
Basically set during the Great Depression, Matt Damon’s character one of Savannah Georgia’s premier golfer fights in the war and ends up coming back a broken man with a lost swing. Luckily Will Smith’s character comes out of nowhere literally and helps him find his swing and ends up tying Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen in the greatest golf exhibition ever. I loved this film. I don’t know what was more appealing to me how accurately they displayed one of my favorite golfers ever Bobby Jones or the amazing acting Smith did in his roll.

Saw Street Kings with Keanu Reeves and Forest Whittaker last night.
Bit hard to follow and a strange ending, but I enjoyed it mostly.

The Bourne Ultimatum
Very, very good film. Actually the whole trilogy was great, one of the best ever. The on-foot roof chase was thrilling and the fight scenes were the usually great stuff. The end of the film where the news reader announces that "police searched the river but could not find the body of Jason Bourne" and the theme music kicks in was a great end to the franchise. The only small problem was the sense of de-ja-vu.
I just saw the Bourne Supremacy the week before and I do feel that it was better than the 3rd film. None of the fights in the Ultimatum were as good as the brutal one in the Supremacy where the other guy had his hands tied up. Also I loved the scene where Jason tells the Russian girl that he killed her parents. That was a very emotional scene and nothing really matched it in this one. That said my complaints are minor and it's still fantastic.

I also saw...
Battle Royale

And
Austin Powers Goldmember
This was shown on C4 yesterday. It sucks. Okay that's a bit harsh, but it's nowhere near as funny as the first two and the hilarious James Bond satire is nowhere to be seen and is now replaced with satire of itself- although they acknowledge this with the appearance of the Osbournes making a joke that falls flat. They appearance of Britney Spears is just jarring and unwarranted.
I don't think I laughed once during it, yes I have seen it before, but I still laugh at The Spy Who Shagged Me. The Goldmember character who at first I hated is actually one of the highlights of the film as the characters get to say some great put-downs to him- Goldmember: "Can I paint his winky gold? It's kinda my thing...." Dr. Evil: "...How about no, you crazy Dutch bastard?" and Michael Caine's remark after Goldmember reveals he has a gold penis shaped as a key "Only a Dutchman..."
Also Michael Caine gets the best line of the series imo- "There's only two kinds of people in this world I don't like. Those who are intolerant of other people's cultures.....and the Dutch" I lol every time at that.
Overall it's easily the worst of all 3.

Lars and The Real Girl.
Fantastic movie. Ryan Gosling plays a loner who falls in love with a mail order life sized sex doll. Basically throughout the whole film it shows him coming to terms with things that would happen within real life. During the whole film he thinks she's real and addresses her as if she is. They even sleep in seperate beds.
It's a really touching film and I would suggest that if you haven't seen it then you find it to watch. Easily one of the best films I've seen in a while. Up there with Garden State imo.

Austin Powers International Man of Mystery
Hilarious.

Blood Diamond
Wow. This is a great film. The acting is simply outstanding with Djimon Hounsou being incredible. He should have won an Oscar. I don't know what else to say about it really other than it was great. I recomend it. You were right Flyers- great movie.

Funny Games - the US remake. Man what a thoroughly depressing film that was. I felt cold and empty and worthless afterwards. Very well paced and acted and some unique touches by the Austrian director. You should check it out for sure, but beware it may leave you feeling a bit down.
And if that wasn't enough, I watched a French film called Frontiers right after. Seriously this is possibly the harshest film I've ever seen. It is callous, brutal and disturbing beyond any stretch of the imagination. Vile yet compelling.
What a horrible double bill that was.

Spent the better part of a week in the UK, was due to fly home yesterday but an inch of snow means the country goes into chaos. Awesome, simply awesome.
Anyway, Friday I saw The Dark Knight at the IMAX in London. Stupidly huge screen and seeing the scenes shot in IMAX made it even better. Seriously for you guys in UK, if you can get to the IMAX before the end of this month go see it in its intended format. You wont regret it. I paid £6.70 for my ticket (cheaper than what I saw today) and still wanna go back and see it now. *****
Today I went to the cinema near my GF's moms house to see Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Not too bad of a film, bit predictable but hey that's a teen flick for you. I wish Michael Cera would try something different than the loser in a film though. He was great in Arrested Development. But yeah, the film wasn't too bad but I've seen better. ***

I saw Slumdog Millionaire in the cinema.
Everybody has been raving about this film for months and calling it film of the year and I whole heartedly agree. It's stunning. I don't want to say much more and spoil it but it's perfect.
Easily 5 stars.

The Watchmen. Awesome movie. I was a little worried that with all the hype i would be let down, but man is it good. I didn't expect it to be so violent, and I never read the comics (which i might go do since i liked the movie so much) but i really enjoyed the film.
I didn't enjoy the $11 ticket price and the $15 for food/drink though.

I'm gonna go see Watchmen tonight. I just finished the book again, so all is fresh. I first read the book about 20 years ago while tossing it off at college (here in northern England, "tossing it off" means being a lazy twat, and not masturbating. Just so you don't get the wrong idea...)
So yeah, it was like reading it for the first time again, which was awesome. I've since read better comic books, but there is no denying it's epic scope. I read a great review for it in Total Film, who said it was the most violent and gory comic adaptation ever made. I watched the new Punisher the other week, so that's a pretty bold statement. But I'm excited as hell about seeing Watchmen.

Batman Dark Night again. Still a ***** film, but the more I watch it the more I realise that Heath Ledger was doing an impression of Daffy Duck. Seriously towards the end of the film it's a spot on impression and I half expected him to say "you're deth-picable!"
*****
I also saw the new Indiana Jones film. I am sure we've all heard the phrase "jump the shark" used when a series does something so bad that it signals the franchise's downward spiral- think Scrappy Doo or The Fonz surfing and jumping over a shark (coining the phrase). Well this film has started it's own 'jump the shark' phrase and that is 'nuked the fridge'. And OMG did this film sooooooooo nuked the fridge. It was so stupid I thought I was watching a lame Roger Moore Bond flick at points.
It's still fairly enjoyable but it's soooo stupid. I watched a documentary on the DVD and I found out that Spielberg did NOT want aliens in the film but none other than George fucking Lucas insisted! Yes Mr. One Hit Wonder director George Lucas who had already fucked up his own film Star Wars and it's wonderful two sequels by making shit prequels has now done the same to the Indy franchise.
George Lucas sucks ass.

i've yet to see the new Indiana Jones, but despite all that has been said about its awfulness, at least it gave us some great south park moments in the episode The China Problem.
