Haha, so I heard. I watched in on normal ITV and it was fine.
Why would they go to adverts 3 minutes in? Btw Flyers, do you get adverts in the States during games?
Very good performance by England. Stevie Gerrard was excellent and Heskey did very well too, as did Johnson actually. Desperately unlucky. We'll have to hope for a draw tomorrow.

Wow, I've never seen an England performance that has divided opinion so much. I've had people say pretty much what you say, which is the general consensus of the pundits, but on the other hand I've had people say things like they deserve to crash in the Serengeti and be devoured by hyenas after such a piss-poor performance. I happen to kind of agree with you, but believe they should have sown this game up after such an excellent start. They were indeed desperately unlucky to concede that goal. You gotta feel for Green after that. I bet he just wanted the ground to open up and swallow him whole there and then. Barring that mistake, they did a lot right and certainly enough to win the game. I think Green is still the right choice in the net, and feel he will grow throughout the tournament. And I also think England will piss this group and go on at least to the quarters. I still think Germany will win though.

Well people moaned about the Japan and Mexico games because we played bad, despite winning. Now we played good and only drew, grr. Yeah we should have still won. We had 45 minutes to score a second but couldn't do it.
Looks like taking King to the world cup was a big mistake. He's great, but we all knew he was going to get injured at some point. Carragher is good, but showed he has no pace whatsoever. It shouldn't matter too much against Slovenia and Algeria, but we could pay the price later on. Then who you play, I dunno. Dawson has never even played for England.... I would have taken Wes Brown myself, despite how much I hate him.

What did everyone make of the Group B games then?
Argentina, along with England I think, look like the best team we have seen yet. Messi played one of his best games for Argentina, but like England they failed to get a second to put the game to bed. The Nigerian goal keeper was excellent quite frankly and may have helped get them to Round 2 by keeping the goal difference down to +1.
South Korea look like their biggest threat for runner up and I think they will do it too. Greece were a joke honestly. I don't understand it either..... they were very good in qualifying with Gekkas being top goal scorer. Whenever they come to a major tournament they just give up it seems and play defensive. Fair enough against France and Portugal.... but South Korea? They could have beaten them. Now they NEED a win against Nigeria and even that might not be enough.

no, we don't show commercials during the game. Only during the half.
I thought we played the game amazingly.
At the start, they showed both teams in the hallway about to take the field and at that point i thought to myself "man England looks intimidating" i thought we were in for a long one. Esp. when England scored 4 mins in.
Our goal was pure luck but i'll take it.
Also, you guy's had so many chances to take a 2-1 lead. I mean it was like all offense for you guy's the last 20mins or so. Howard was amazing in goal.
As much as I am very happy with a draw, we were so close to taking a 2-1 lead with the breakaway shot that went off the crossbar.
Anyway, I think England and US will win their next 2 games easily and move on.

Yeah Flyers both Algeria and Slovenia look very beatable. It may come down to who beats them by the most goals which decided who tops the groups. And both will want to win so as to avoid the Germans.

Well, I woke up today and was excited to watch this group of death but after watching the first half of the Ivory Coast and Portugal game it's been anything but exciting.
Besides that post shot early by Ronaldo NOTHING has happened.
ugh, i hope the 2nd half is better.

I'm afriad the group of death is anything but...
Frankly, a group of death which includes N. Korea is anything but. I've felt, and have felt since before the tournament, that the true group of death is Germany/Ghana/Serbia/Australia. No matter the result in this group it will provide an upset of some sort.
I could much more largely debate the Australian position when I'm not so drunk. But I have always expected a first round demise for 2010. Anything beyond this would be a huge bonus!

I disagree with both of you!
The Portugal, Brazil and Ivory Coast group is not the group of death as it features North Korea.
The Australia, Ghana and Serbia group is more like it, but Germany are clearly the best team in it.
Therefore I think the real group of death is South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay & France as all four teams are of equal quality.
Great results for Paraguay yesterday and New Zealand today must be very happy with their draws.

yeah, after watching this game today Portugal sucks lol. I think Brazil will win easily today.
I like group A and would love to see South Africa move on but that's asking a lot.
Also, I still think Australia will move on with two solid performances in their upcoming games.

I doubt it... Our main trouble is scoring goals... despite conceding 4 of them to a superior team the other day. When we picked our squad Pim Verbeek amazingly dropped Scott McDonald (Celtic) from the team. He has yet to perform at international level, but in a squad desperately lacking firepower, he was basically all we had.
You may have seen that Verbeek decided against all reason to take Cahill out of midfield and throw him up forward. This may have been a stroke of genius had our best player (the underrated Marco Bresciano) been fit and playing through the midfield. Maybe even if Harry Kewell's groin hadn't been on the fritz... AGAIN! But neither were available, and the move just crippled an already weakened team.
I am most patriotic when it comes World Cup time, but I just don't think the team has it in them. They have a better chance against Ghana than Serbia... but if the Ghaneans fire up front they could potentially annihilate us. I see a draw and another loss coming our way. Disappointing results for a nation in which football is still struggling to find it's footing.
And Woo, I do agree with you about the SA/MEX/URU/FRA group. My point, although obscured by my drunkeness, is that the BRA/POR/IVC/NK group has been dubbed group of death when really... Brazil are the standouts and Ivory Coast might do some damage (although that seems unlikely after their performance in the CAF Nations cup). Portugal are grossly overrated imo. And North Korea... well... yeah. They're North Korea.

I thought Portugal looked really weak today. I'm sure if I uttered that outloud in my town of 18,000 Portuguese out of a total 28,000 people I would get stripped, stoned and spit on, but I thought they were lucky to come away with the tie. During the game, my friends argued "Portugal has possession, and that's what matters in soccer." I nodded, but couldn't help thinking that while Portugal had better numbers, they were inflated by the fact that they just held the ball at midfield rather than pushing forward, while Ivory Coast was constantly attacking the Portuguese net.
Furthermore, Ivory Coast was playing with heart. They were always attacking the ball and never fell to the ground unless legitimately tackled down. Portugal, on the other hand, would be out-flopped by a fish pulled out of the ocean. My lord was that frustrating to watch. Deco looked as if he was trying to fuck the field while Ronaldo would topple over anytime there was a player near him. Yeah, there were people putting their hands on his back, putting their legs in front of him etc. but there were numerous times he could have stayed up and kept pursuing the ball and/or play. The Portuguese play for the calls, they don't play for the ball.
Honestly, if Ivory Coast plays the rest of the tournament the way they played today, I would love to see them make it to the finals because it's much more entertaining and sportsmanlike that the teams that are always hitting the ground looking for fouls.
