yeah, i really am not a "football" fan. Any game that didn't have usa in it i found rather boring. I mean soccer is our nation’s 5th sport anyway. I did have a blast watching USA tho. I think they got a lot of people interested in the sport. We'll see if it has any effect in the long run.

We should hold the World Series of Baseball here in the UK. It's like our 15th sport.

I think you're drastically overstating soccer as the USA's "5th sport", but I've been wrong once before. Other sports that may be more popular in America than soccer include (but are not limited to): NASCAR, tennis, golf, Brock Lesnar, boxing, skateboarding, Wii Sports Resort, and Michael Phelps. However, "soccer is the number one youth participation sport in the U.S. today, more popular even than American football, baseball, basketball, or hockey, up to about the age of 13", according to wikipedia, which is where I go for all my youth participation sport news.

it's because mothers don't want to see their kids get hurt..... so they sign them up for a non contact sport like soccer.

That and what better way to tire a kid out than have him run after another kid for 3 miles?
I don't know though. I see this as kind of a changing of the guard. I truly believe that these kids will stick with the sport for life. And when the current crop grows up, I think we'll see some real progress in America's professional soccer, kickball, and hopscotch teams. I really do.

not to mention it's much less expensive to put kids into Soccer than sports that require actual equipment like football and hockey.

So lazy parenting is breeding the soccer stars of tomorrow.
I bet Lionel Messi's parents are just the worst. I doubt they go to any of his games. They probably don't even slice his oranges.

Pele actually practised his football skills using an orange rather than a ball.

Takes a long time for that guy to put a plan into action though. He's real grassroots though, so I respect his treachery.
