Yesterday was our 3rd wedding anniversary, and to celebrate, I took Julie to see the new Punisher movie: Warzone. I'm a right romantic bastard aren't I?
It's fucking brilliant, much more like the comic than the previous two - including Dolph's effort. This new guy Ray Stephenson is The Punisher personified. He was made for the role. And violent? Fuck yeah! There's dismemberments, impalements, stabbings, head explosions, slashings, manglings, squishings and explosions galore. Not to mention the 200+ shootings which the film provides for our ghoulish entertainment.
The script is a bit shonky, but what the hell - it's exactly like the books, so it's acceptably bad in my opinion.
If you're expecting a high-brow, stylistic, Zack Snider-esque comic book interpretation with massive production values, then give it miss - you'll be gutted. But if like me you like your violence to be visceral, in your face and over the top, then this film fulfils it's potential in spades. And strangely, it's directed by a woman...
I hope Stephenson hangs around for another Punisher movie, because he is great.

I would see it but nowhere in the South East is showing it, much like the new Friday the 13th. Stupid cinemas.
Anyway, I heard that this new Punisher is being fast tracked to DVD. Possibly as early as next month.
