Before I get to the top 10, here are some of the other great cameos in GTA games.
Scott Maslen as Claude Speed- GTA 2
It’s easy to forget that GTA is actually a British game, at least it was anyway. Here is former The Bill and current Eastenders actor Scott Maslen playing Claude Speed in GTA 2. Claude would later be used again as the silent hero of GTA III. You think he puts that on his CV?
Kyle MacLachlan as Donald Love- GTA III & Vice City
The main character in David Lynch’s Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks stars as media honcho Donald Love.
Michael Rapaport as Joey Leone- GTA III
Rappaport is been in several films and TV programs including True Romance, Friends and Prison Break Season 4 as Don Self. He plays the son of a Mafia Don.
Frank Vincent as Salvatore Leone. GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas & Liberty City Stories
Vincent has been in Goodfellers (as the ill-fated Billy Batts), Casino and the Sopranos. Here he does what he does best playing a Mafia Don. I was so disappointed when he betrayed me in GTA III.
Debi Mazar as Maria- GTA III & Vice City
Another person from Goodfellers, she was Henry’s mistress Sandy. Here she plays Salvatore’s bisexual young wife who is having an affair with female Yakuza leader Asuka and she also tries it on with main character Claude too. In fact she is so annoying that after a very hard final mission where you have to rescue her Claude then shoots he dead in the credits. Hilarious.
Joe Pantoliano as Luigi Goterelli- GTA III
Memento’s, The Matrix’s and the Sopranos’ Pantoliano plays small time mobster and part time pimp who owns a brother called Sex Club 7 (a joke on S Club 7?) and is the first contact you work for in GTA III.
Tom Sizemore as Sonny Forelli- GTA Vice City
Tom plays the main bad guy of the game. I wonder just how many actors from True Romance are in GTA games?
Phillip Michael Thomas as Lance Vance- GTA Vice City
The game was based on Miami Vice in some parts so why not get Miami Vice’s Tubbs to play the super cool Lance Vance Dance?
Burt Reynolds as Avery Carrington- GTA Vice City
Robert Davi as Colonel Cortez- GTA Vice City
You may know Davi as one of the two FBI Agent Johnson’s from Die Hard or from his role as main bad guy Sanchez, in 007 Licence To Kill where he was a Cuban Crime lord.
Fairuza Balk as Mercedes Cortez- GTA Vice City
Balk was in American History X and Dorothy in Return to Oz!! Man giving how her character is such a slut I’m never going to able to watch Return to Oz again in the same way. She’s also a pagan. I guess Oz fucked her up.
Luiz Guzman as Ricardo Diaz
Lawrence "LT" Taylor as BJ Smith- GTA Vice City
Wrestlemania legend and part time NFL player plays a car salesman in VC.
Jenna Jameson as Candy Suxxx- GTA Vice City
Jenna Jameson plays a porn star. Who did she pull that off?
Debbie Harry as Cab Dispatcher- GTA Vice City
80’s iconic singer and pin-up plays an unseen taxi dispatcher.
Danny Trejo as Umberto Robina- GTA Vice City
“You have little bitty cahones!” Classic line.
MC Eiht as Ryder- GTA San Andreas
Rapper from Compton’s Most Wanted and actor in Menace II Society is excellent as Ryder. “You can’t stop me!”
Peter Fonda as The Truth- GTA San Andreas
Screen icon Peter Fonda follows his Easy Rider c-star Dennis Hopper into a GTA game and is terrific as conspiracy theory whacko and stoned hippy The Truth.
Ice T as Madd Dogg- GTA San Andreas
Former NWA rapper Ice T plays….a rapper. A massive rap star driving to suicide by CJ.
The Game as B-Dup- GTA San Andreas
G-Unit sidekick plays a dope dealer.
Axl Rose as Tommy, the Nightmare, Smith- GTA San Andreas
The Guns’N’Rose front man plays a radio DJ on classic rock station K-Dst FM.
Iggy Pop- Himself- GTA IV
Juliet Lewis- Herself- GTAIV
Ricky Gervais- Himself- GTA IV
Iggy and Lewis both play themselves as radio DJ’s while Ricky Gervais plays himself doing stand-up acts. I was literally like “OMG!” when I saw Ricky on the TV in the game lol.

10. Shaun Ryder as Maccer- GTA San Andreas
Frontman of Manchester band Happy Mondays plays washed up rocker Maccer, who is a member of The Gurning Chimps from the city of Madchester- love the Madchester scene being referenced there! Anyway Ryder, who some of you may know better as singing in the Goriliaz song Dare, nails the role and is hilarious with his sexual perversions and fantasies over Margaret Thatcher.
9. James Woods as Mike Torino- GTA San Andreas
Shark's James Woods plays government operative Mike Torino and nails the part. He's fucking hilarious and my favourite character in the game.
8. Chris Penn as Officer Eddie Pulaski- GTA San Andreas
The late Chris Penn from such films as True Romance and Reservoir Dogs (Nice Guy Eddie!) plays foul-mouthed bent officer Pulaski, sidekick to Officer Tenpenny.
7. William Fitcher as Ken Rosenberg- GTA Vice City & San Andreas
Prison Break's drug addicted Agent Mahone plays....drug addicted Ken Rosenberg. High of coke and constantly worrying his big mouth keeps landing main character Tommy in trouble.
6. Ray Liota as Tommy Vercetti- GTA Vice City
It's just a joy to hear Vercetti speak in this game. Every time he opens his mouth you just keep hearing Goodfellers' Henry Hills speaking. The opening line of "I stick my head out the gutter for one freaking second and fate shovels shit in my face" is great!
5. Michael Madsen- GTA III
Who's the funniest character in GTA III? Yep, Tony. He's a crazy mobster obsessed with wiping out the Triad from Liberty City while at the same time having to deal with his disappointed Mum who is constantly angry at him. There's a really funny bit where on Chatterbox FM Tony phones in and speaks about his problems with his mum.
"Hello caller what is your name?"
"My name is not important!"
"Um....okay, what's the matter?" "It's my Mum. She's always nagging me, saying 'Tony, Tony, Tony when are you going to be a real man?' I'm sick of it.'
"Okay Tony..."
"Tony?!....Who said my name is Tony?! My name AINT Tony okay?"
"...okay..."
"But my Mum, she's like 'Tony, Tony....'"
Hilarious. And who better to play a total psycho that Reservoir Dogs' Mr. Blond?
4. Samuel L Jackson as Officer Tenpenny- GTA San Andreas
Casting choices just don’t get any better than this! Jackson plays evil cop Tenpenny and does so perfectly.
3. Dennis Hopper as Stephen Scott- GTA Vice City
Cinema legend Dennis Hopper gives an incredible performance as an hilarious porn director obsessed with sharks and potatoes!
2. Danny Dyer as Kent Paul- GTA Vice City & GTA San Andreas
Danny Dyer plays well…Danny Dyer in GTA. A cockney wide boy, who thinks he’s a player in the crime world of Vice City but is actually a total loser. The best bit is where Tommy beats information our of him in the Malibu club and then after Tommy has left Kent stands up and says “Yeah…walk away!” as if he just scared him off. He returns again in San Andreas as Maccer’s mate and eventually friend to CJ.
1. Phil Collins as Phil Collins- GTA Vice City Stories.
Phil is No.1 because he really is playing himself. He’s in Vice City trying to play a gig, but people keep trying to kill him in two separate missions- brilliantly called Kill Phil and Kill Phil Part 2. You can even get to see him play some of his classic songs too. Brilliant.
