Well the title says it all really. In this thread talk about your favourite sporting moments! I love pretty much every sport and watch them all whenever they are on TV so I have a lot of fantastic sporting moments to chose from, but I'll start with football.
Football[/u]
- David Beckham's redemption against Greece
So England are facing Greece (when everyone thought they sucked before being proven very wrong indeed in 2004!) and are losing 2-1. They need a draw to go through to the World Cup but the clock reads 92 minutes...so yeah 2 minutes past full time. We have been playing shit all game and David Beckham really has been carrying the whole team on his back. He's free kicks haven't been very good though and when we get a free kick in the 92nd minute Teddy Sheringham actually asked David if he would like him to take it. Thankfully Beckham said know and kicked us into the World Cup!

-Germany 1 England 5
This needs noooo explanation at all! The best feel good England moment since I was born....there haven't been many though..
-1999 Champions League Final!
So It's Bayen Munich leading my Manchester United in the final by 1 goal with the clock at something like 89 minutes. Then Man U score!!!! Twice!!! And win. Great. There were other very memorable comebacks in football I loved such as Spain vs Yugoslavia in Euro 2000 and the epic Turkey vs Croatia match in this years tournament, but the 1999 final was the first game I saw that turned around so quickly!
-Stuart Pierce scores a penalty in Euro 96
Well done Stuart, you stood up to the spot again and exorcised your demons from 1990! Too bad Southgate would miss from the spot in the next round.
Formula One[/u]
- Hamilton wins world championship!
Well I'll start with the moment that inspired this thread. The most gripping F1 race I have ever seen!
- The 2003 Brazilian GP
By far the craziest most eventful race I have ever see! The podium speaks for itself really- there were only two people on the podium as the driver who finished in 3rd was injured and the two people on the podium in 1st and 2nd place were stood on the wrong steps! Also the winners car was on fire at the end of the race. Got to love those Brazilian races! To make this even better Fisichella (who I was a big fan of) won his first race and Michael Schumacher was one of the many, many retirements in this rainy race. I have this whole race on video. I need to watch it again!
- Jean Alesi wins!
Also both Jordon drivers came in 3rd and 2nd, which made me happy, but the story was Jean Alesi AT LAST winning his first, and only, Grand Prix race. He crossed the line just as his car ran out of fuel too. The Michael Schumacher did the greatest sportsmanship moment of his whole career and gave Jean a ride on his car. A wonderful moment this.
Rowing
Flyers and Steala are probably thinking "WTF ROWING?!" reading this while everybody in the UK will be like "ahhh yes" but anyway.
- Sydney 2000 Steve Redgrave wins 5th gold medal in a very close race!
- Athens 2004 Matthew Pinsent wins 4th gold medal in an even closer race!
Tennis[/u]
This years Wimbledon final between Nadal and Federer was fantastic and extremely close too with Roger's streak, but my favourite match was the gripping 2001 final between Pat Rafter and Goran Ivanisevic. Due to a rainy week this was played on Monday and I bunked off school to watch it. So glad I did! This was the year of Wrestlemania 17 and Paul Heyman described the main event between Austin/Rock as "a match both men NEED to win and neither man can afford to lose!" and that was even truer with this final. Rafter lost last years final and Goran and lost THREE TIMES in a final. A 4th defeat would have killed Goran- but he won!
It was great even if Rafter was my favourite tennis player back then. Goran was on inspired form. He only got into the tournament as a wild card too!

That'll do for now. I'll add some more from other sports later but what are your favourite sporting moments?
