Should someone tell Woo that Jaws isn't a horror film? Yes it is. It's hardly a heart warming family Christmas movie. Just because it's not set in an old mansion or castle doesn't mean it can't be classed as a horror movie. If the prime goal of a horror is to scare people then this film scores very highly indeed. Jaws is every bit as terryfiying to people as a man brought back to life or a werewolf, perhaps even more so. While they are crazed maniacs in the world a lot more people can relate to a shark. As Scream said there are certain rules one can stick to in order to survive a horror movie. The characters in Carrie that were killed were school bullies, the kids in Halloween were breaking Scream's 'Don't have sex' rule and promptly ended up dead as a result of the cold blade of Michael Myers, while the virgin Jamie Lee Curtis lives till the sequel. But Jaws bites right through the notion that if you are a good moral person you were be fine by killing a child on a surfboard. An innocent child. That's the genius of the film. In Jaws anyone can die and even your main characters aren't necessarily safe. The film may be a PG and may work on other levels other than just making you jump out of your seat, but scaring audiences is clearly it's prime objective. Like Freddie, Jason and Norman Bates you know Jaws will strike but the thrill is that you don't know when or how. How many other films can scare you just by it's theme tune alone? You could say that Silence of the Lambs is a thriller or Alien is a sci-fi and you would be right on both occasions, but Hannibal Lectar and the Alien itself are also true horror creations and so too is every-one's favourite rubber shark and no list of the scariest film villains would really be complete without it.

It's a thriller Woo, a thriller. There is in no way it is a horror movie, your perception of horror is a bit flashed young sir.

The one from Peter Pan was better and he DID have a cool theme. The snake could have got points for killing Jennifer Lopez, but it let us all down when it let her live. I'll take a rubbery shark over a CGI annaconda anyday. So yeah Knox won the last round. Anyway my next random subject is going to be.... Top 10 Famous Cats.....yes you read that right... 10 famous cats, mostly from cartoons- one real cat from a series of films, one neither real nor cartoon... So yeah, try and guess them. Btw this is just domestic cats....well with one exeption which will become clear when it's guessed. So no Tigger or Snagglepuss (turns out he's a mountain lion). 1 2 3 **** 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
