Well I am a huge James Bond fan and with the 22nd official film being released on Halloween I thought I'd make a few top 10 lists to celebrate this fact. I dunno if anybody else likes James Bond films or not, but there has only been 1 post on this whole forum in 24 hours so I thought I'd better post something
So anyway these are the top 10 bad guys in a Bond Film and they sure are a mixed bunch ranging from drug dealers, poker players to top assassins. They all sure share some things though, mainly stupidly telling Bond their grand scheme before trying to kill him in a stupidly elaborate way.
10. Hugo Drax- Moonraker
There's no getting around the fact that Moonraker is one stupid film, but at least the bad guy is quite entertaining, probably the only one during the Roger Moore films. His plan to destroy Earth and then create a perfect utopia in space as quite something however...
Best moment: "Please take care of Mr. Bond and see that some harm comes to him."
9. Dr. No- Dr. No
Usually the first films in a series are the best and produce all the greatest moments. That's not the case in the Bond series when it comes to the bad guy though. Dr. No is not bad, far from it, however and is rather chilling and very creepy in the titular role.
Best moment: Inviting Bond and Honey Ryder to dinner.
8. Scaramanga- The Man With The Golden Gun
Christopher Lee brilliantly plays the man with golden gun and the man with the 3rd nipple in Roger Moore's second film as 007. The character of a super assassin could have been so much better, but Lee does enough to save this film....I still don't get why a super rich assassin would give a damn about selling solar panels or whatever it was he was up to though...
Best bit: The dinner scene (yep another one) with Nick Nack as his waiter. The scene where he assembles the gun made out of a pen and other objects is cool too.
7. Franz Sanchez- Licence To Kill
Okay so a drug dealer isn't nearly as fun as a megalomaniac hell bent on world domination by Sanchez scores points by making things personal with Bond when he attacks Felix Leighter and kills his wife before feeding Felix to a shark and leaving the hilariously evil joke 'He didn't agree with something that ate him' behind.
Best Bit: His death, caused by being set on fire with a lighter given to Bond by Felix Leighter was gruesome and great poetic justice.
6. Alec Trevelyan- Goldeneye
In at No.6 is 006 himself. James' former partner and one heck of a bad guy. The idea of 007 fighting an other 00' is such a simple great idea It's shocking it didn't happen until the 17th film. Sean Bean was great casting in the role too.
Best Bit: After supposedly dying in the pre-titles sequence Alex comes back from the dead and he's up to no good!
5. Largo- Thunderball
Okay this guy doesn't have much character, so they gave him an eye-patch to make up for it and like Street Fighter's Saggat it paid off....plus it paved the way for the great Austin Powers character Number 2. Also Largo, being SPECTRE's 'No.2' stole nuclear weapons to try and blackmail the British government for £100 Million Pounds, which also inspired great jokes in the Austin Powers series.
Best Bit: Not giving a damn at all as Blofeld kills another member of SPECTRE right in front of him.
4. La Chiffre- Casino Royale
Come on he bleeds blood! That's cool enough for a number four spot right? Well okay he also captures Bond and tortures him in the most brutal scene in the series history. Plus he's great at poker!
Best Bit: The torture scene with Bond. Incredible.
3. Ernst Stavro Blofeld- From Russia With Love & Thunderball
Okay I know that Blofeld appeared in many later films, including the time you first see his scared face, but he was much better when you just see his hand stroking that infamous white cat.
Best Bit: Anytime he has one of his henchmen killed, particuly the the time when he feeds people to his piranhas.
2. Rosa Klebb- From Russia With Love
Connery really did get all the best baddies and Rosa is the only female in a main bad guy role that can compete with the likes of Blofeld. This scary lesbian working for SPECTRE was so good and that nobody has been able to fill he spike-daggered shoes yet.
Best Bit: Rosa faces off against Bond armed with her lethal shoe!
1. Auric Goldfinger- Goldfinger
Well Goldfinger is arguably the perfect Bond film and Goldfinger is usually praised as the best bad guy in Bond, actually film, history. His plan to contaminate gold at Fort Knox so that his own gold stash goes up in price is a bit of a head scratcher, but he still rules. He's got a laser, doesn't expect Bond to talk-just die and cheats at golf! omg!
Best Bit: Bond, Goldfinger, a laser and one of the most memorable quotes in film history.
So they were the best, how about the worst? Well some would say casting Christopher Walken as Max Zorrin in the worst Bond film ever...at least until Die Another Die...was a huge waste of a superb actor, and it was, but it's not the worst....not by a long shot...
Nope that honour goes to.... Blofeld! Yep the 3rd greatest bad guy is also the worst due to his portrayal in Diamonds Are Forever where he dresses up in drag.........so so SO Stupid! I was going to post a picture of him dressed as a woman, but couldn't find any. Lucky for you.
Coming soon: Top 10 Henchman!
