Okay at Summerslam John Cena sustained a neck injury and will be out for probably well over a year if the injuries to Benoit, Austin, Edge, Rhino, Lita, Hurricane etc are anything to go by.
This is a big blow imo for the WWE as Cena, along with Edge, has probably been their most consistent performer in the last couple of years putting in excellent matches and fantastic feuds.
However I think in the long run providing Cena is able to make a full recovery, which sadly may never happen giving the recurring problems Austin and Benoit had, can be a good thing. He'll be hugely over when he returns and maybe we can even see the long awaited heel turn which although being a huge financial risk may work.
In the meantime though, this is bad news for the WWE. Especialy seeing as Rey Rey has taken his place on the PPV.

Perhaps this will force them to finally create new stars.

Perhaps this will force them to finally create new stars. What about CM Punk? Or Matt Hardy? Shelton, MVP, Cody Rhodes, Ted Dibiase Jr, Jeff Hardy, Santino, Umaga, Kofi Kingson, Evan Bourne, The Miz, John Morrison or even Brian freaking Kendrick?! There really hasn't been this many stars in the WWE for a very long time. Yes HHH is a bit of a blemish, but the other big name stars are all quality wrestlers- HBK Edge, Orton, Cena, Taker, Batty (on his day) and Rey Rey. Then you add Y2J and Big Show who have been on fire since their returns in the last 12 months and the talent in that company is amazing. But they are still finding time to promote new stars as Unforgiven proved.

I apparently have a higher standard for the word 'star' than you. You just named pretty much the entire midcard of WWE, barring CM Punk. lol. Stars to me are Cena, HHH, Orton, Batista, Undertaker, Edge, and the like. Often multiple-time champions (though I considered Y2J a star even before his recent title win) and always legitimate contenders to the World titles (and ECW doesn't count).

Well yeah, most of them I listed are midcarders, but they are all on the verge of becoming main event stars, Jeff Hardy being the biggest example, with CM Punk arguebly there already.
I guess I was slightly influenced by the fact MVP, Shelton etc all had a title shot at Unforgiven and are possibly on there way to becoming big stars, with someone probably breaking out via the MitB match at Mania.
All it would take for one of those I listed to break out at last would be a timely injury to HHH...
