Foley to TNA?

WWE legend Mick Foley will jump to rival wrestling group TNA next month, a close friend has told The Sun.

The hardcore icon has become frustrated with his role as a commentator on Smackdown and wants to leave Vince McMahon’s company when his contract expires on September 1.

And he is so determined to make an IMPACT for his new employers, that he’s even willing to get back in the ring.
Foley’s pal told us: “Mick's body cannot handle a full time schedule, even in TNA.

“But he's hell bent on doing everything he can to further his legacy and put them on the map.

"So Mick's plan is to wrestle select dates, like Sting currently does.

“He feels he will legitimately make a big difference in the way TNA Wrestling is perceived by the public!”

Mick missed last night’s Smackdown TV taping for the second week running, with Tazz once again taking his announcer spot beside Jim Ross.

Last week, Foley told a newspaper: “At this point, there is a good chance, through mutual agreement that I will not be renewing my contract.

“Creatively, the announcing job wasn't working out too well.”

The hardcore legend almost went to TNA once before, in 2005, but decided to sign a new deal with the WWE at the last moment.

Yes, I know it's the Sun and that means it's probably BS but how amazing if it's true! Yes, I am usually the first person to critize when old stars are brought into companies, but I think Foley would a huge acqusition for TNA and is a class above the likes of Sting and dare I say, even Kurt Angle? His promo skills alone elevate him above the ex WWE wrestlers that Dixie Carter brings in by the bucketload and I think he could still have 1 or 2 great matches left in him.

I want AJ vs Foley! Imagine the clash of styles in this match...pun kinda intended.

Okay according to the big wrestling sources this deal has all but been confirmed now and Foley will be going to Orlando as soon as his contract expires.

Nobody's too sure in what capacity he will be at TNA be it a wrestler, commentator in a comisioner type role. Whatever it is it's enough for me to start watching TNA again.

The only downside for me is that Foley's strength's is creating a feud on great promos that use plays on past events. In TNA he hasn't really had much history with anybody there- all I could think of was the comic skits with Angle and Cage and one former match with Sting in WCW. But even with that tiny bit of history TNA can't exactly show us flashbacks to any of that and it will therefore be relying on people having watched WWE, which defeats the purpose of an alternate wrestling promotion.

Why knows, maybe TNA will create history with Foley against Joe/AJ/Abyss/etc and make this work.

Here is a simple equation which works for me.

Mick Foley + Live Mike + New Company = Ratings Bonanza

I'd tune in, as Foley has rarely been one to mince his words when it comes to talking freely about Vince McMahon and WWE.
But will he be allowed the freedom? I hope so.
It's not all bad - he occasionally speaks very favourably of his WWE tenure, but he's just a brutally honest bloke.

TNA could use him very well, especially if they continue building stables and utilizing managers.
That's when WWE started it's massive decline in my opinion. It all became too much of an "every man for himself" situation, with everyone seemingly aiming for the big straps,.
That's not what I fondly remember of wrestling.

Mick Foley is only one man, but with such a massive personality that he can make a big difference wherever he works.

You have a point. I was watching the early Royal Rumbles and Bad News Brown was in two of them and it struck me as what a cool character he was. Not just because he was a tweener, but because he had no friends or managers at all.

All the other heels had guys like Jimmy Hart, Heenan, Slick, Fuji or Sherri in their corner. Even all the faces had friends, but Brown was really refreshing in that loner role.

Of course someone who would have even more success in that role, but even in the Attitude era there were still managers, stables and team teams- Paul Bearer, Tori, DX, Ministry, Corporation, Brood etc...

But now in the days of no managers or stables everyone is effectively on their own, which means the we won't ever see the loner character played out again. Samoa Joe briefly had it when he debuted in TNA and was the super-cool monster tweener, but they ruined his character in the end.

Getting back to Foley WWE have now removed his profile page from their website. I am offically going to start watching TNA from now on.

I am fully expecting to see Foley officially unleashed at the next PPV No Surrender on September 14.
However... this Thursday's IMPACT sees the official in-ring return of Abyss, who has issued an open challenge to ANYBODY to face him.
He was last seen on Karen Angle's interview segment last week doing a spot-on Mankind impersonation, sitting cross-legged on the floor, rocking back and forth maniacally, before ripping out a great chunk of his hair and presenting it to Karen as a macabre gift after reciting some demented poetry he had written for her.

Could it be Foley who accepts the challenge? Thus setting up a dream match at No Surrender on September 14?
