As you may have guessed, I’m a sixth form student right now studying media. As part of my project I have to produce a crime drama pre-production piece along with research and feedback. I was wondering if any of you could help me out by giving opinions and suggestions for my narrative and characters.
The main character is Jack Ivory, who is a police detective that moves to the large city of San Francisco. His new demanding workload eventually gets to him and he starts becoming a different person. Eventually he develops schizophrenia and starts experiencing multiple personalities and hallucinations. It turns into a tale of pursuit where Jack must catch the mysterious, media created, mass murderer Vanity. As the story unravels we begin to learn more about Vanity, who turns out to be a once troublesome youth who enjoyed partying and taking drugs. One day, in a suicide attempt, he took an overdose of heroin and saw what he believed to be his eternal future in hell. When he awakes (in hospital) he believes God has assigned him the position of the Angel of Death and that he must punish the sinners of the world. Also, during the story, it is revealed that Jack and his wife, Nancy, have been falling apart ever since his condition began to manifest itself. A side story would be the ever-crumbling relationship between the two, with Jack putting his work before his family and Nancy turning to other people from the force.
As you can probably tell, my main influences behind this have been the works of David Fincher (such as Se7en, Fight Club and Zodiac) and the ending would reflect this with the twist being that none of the characters (apart from Jack) exist. It is all a crazed illusion from Jack, who is locked in an insane asylum for murdering many people, including his wife and his best friend (who would be who the wife was having an affair with). Jack wakes up from an apparent suicide attempt (he tried to kill himself while inside) and realises all he just experienced wasn’t real. As a result, he attempts to kill himself again. The show ends before we know if he is successful.
Well that’s about all I’ve got for now. Any comments or suggestions would be very helpful. Please do give some.
