So yeah it seems that most gamers love one beat-em-up series and hate all the others be it Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter or Soul Caliber. Some people even like Dead Or Alive! Amazing, but true.
Also some players of these games ignore the fact that they have up to 40 playable characters and instead just play as one until they have perfected that person.
So what is your favorite Beat Em Up game and who's your favorite character?
Me? Well as a Sony fanboy who is still stuck in the 90's I <3 Tekken and when playing I use Nina Williams.
I also sometimes play Street Fighter, though I am terrible, which is why I don't play it as much. I use Chun-Li when playing that. Yeah...I always play as the girls (even in Streets of Rage) due to them being faster.....and also if I am going to spend hours watching a character on screen it might as well be a good looking one...

Gotta go with Street Fighter and Ryu. That guy defines badass when you think about it. Red headband, sleeveless gi, and always looks angry.
Additionally, he has one of the greatest movesets ever. Who wants to be on the other end of a Hadouken, Dragon Punch, or Hurricane Kick? No one, that's who.

Probably Mortal Kombat for me. Got it on the Mega Drive (Genesis for you yanks) when it came out although I was only about 5 I expect. That was way before games had a rating system though. It was great fun being able to pull people's hearts out, freeze them, throw snakes to grab them with Scorpian. The game only improved with the sequal, the much loved moment in it for me is when you'd hit a move and a guy would pop up in the corner and go "Toastie." Still laugh at that today.
Much like Sony did with Tekken, Midway have milked this franchise for all it's worth. A few years ago we went though a spate where we had 3 new games within 8 months!
All in all I guess this adds to the reason why I have no soul.

I always play as the girls (even in Streets of Rage) due to them being faster..... This is rubbish. You play as a girl for the same reason I do (well one of the same reasons) they are nicer to look at. (My other reason is that I AM a girl... unless... Scorpina?) EDIT- I like Street fighter and Mortal Kombat. My usual characters are Chun Li and Kitana

Well I admitted that in my post: also if I am going to spend hours watching a character on screen it might as well be a good looking one... But you can't deny that Chun-Li from SF and Xiaoyu from Tekken are so much faster than the men... My favorite SF bloke would be Vega. I think his character is cool and I bought the SF II anthology and it contains the SF Anime film and the fight between Vega and Chun-Li is the highlight of it now doubt- (sadly the shower scene with her right before was censored...) Shame Vega is so crap in the games. From Tekken when I am not playing as the Williams sisters, Julia or Xiaoyu I like to play as pretty boy Lee- his kicks rule, even if his dress sense is god awful. Anyone play Soul Caliber or Virtua Fighter here?

Vega is so feminine, he nearly counts as a woman.
