Top Ten Movie Death Scenes

I love it when people die in movies. Usually the gorier the better.
But sometimes dramatic and honourable is best.

1. THE WICKER MAN - When officer Edward Woodward, imprisoned in the huge title character, begins to feel the heat as he is burned alive in sacrifice, as the islanders led by a career-best Christopher Lee dance the night away in celebration of the policeman's demise. The last words you hear are Woodward screaming "Oh Christ! Oh Jesus Christ!"
That kinda says it all.

2. THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING - Boromir, dramatically and honourably shakes a seven after being speared by numerous orc arrows.

3. ROBOCOP - The guy who only has fifteen seconds to comply, and then gets cut to ribbons in a hail of ED-209 gunfire.

4. ROBOCOP (again) - The guy who gets driven into a tank of toxic waste and staggers out into the middle of the road, only to get mown down into a mush by a speeding car.

5. HELLRAISER - When Uncle Frank's soul - and everything else - finally gets torn apart by a spaghetti-junction of chains and brutal shark hooks. But not before uttering the immortal last words "Jesus...wept".

6. THE TOXIC AVENGER - When the group of fun-seeking youths set out in their car to kill a young child on a bike. They run him over, but "No way, the kid's still alive... you don't get the points!".
The driver then reverses right over the kid's head and pops it like a watermelon, as the girls snap away happily with their Polaroids.

7. TERROR FIRMER - When the portly gentleman gets stuck in the escalator, and gets dragged under as his internal organs are forced out from his mouth in true Troma style.

8. ZOMBIE FESH EATERS - The iconic scene when a zombie shoves his hand through the door and grabs the girl's hair, before dragging her head towards the raggedly sharp hole and impales her eye on a huge protruding splinter. A real grim treat.

9. NEKROMANTIK 2 - The final scene when the girl is screwing the guy and only manages to climax when she reaches down and hacks off the guy's head with a meat cleaver, and replaces it with the rotting head of her dead former lover.
Really fucking horrible.

10. THE FLY II - When the guy gets his head squashed by the elevator. Very visceral indeed.

Okay I have been thinking about this for sometime, it's pretty hard but here goes, btw you missed out some absolute classics.

10. The Old Lady in A Fish Called Wanda
Okay this is a personal choice. The old lady finally dies from a heart attack after Michael Palin's assassination attempts kept taking the life of her dogs instead. The bit where everyone gathers round her shocked while Palin starts laughing makes me chuckle every time.

9. Bambi's mum.
Okay so you don't actually see her die, but the impact is the same. Why do you have to do this to me Disney?! WHY? *Grabs a tissue*

8. Al Pacino in Scarface
Seriously isn't this how everyone wants to go out? "Say HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!"

7. Random goon in Tomorrow Never Dies
I LOVE James Bond films and laugh at the terrible puns James says when he kills someone "Positively shocking" after electrifying someone or "I think he got the point" after shooting someone with a harpoon gun. But my favorite is in this film where he is fighting several people in a factory that is making newspapers. James then kicks one of his foes and he topples over a balcony down into one of the machines printing the newspaper pages. Bond then utters "They'll print anything these days."

6. Chow Yan-Fat's death in The Killer.
Okay basically Chow Yan Fat plays a hitman who accidentally blinds a young singer while on a job. He then tries to raise money so she can have an operation to make her see again to ease his guilty conscience. However at the end he knows he might be killed so he says "if I die, give her my retinas". But in the films final show-down he is fatally wounded and ironically blinded himself. The bit where both him and the singer try to crawl next to each other with neither one able to see is heart-wrenching.

5. The Lighthouse Girls in Battle Royale
I did like the boy who is killed right at the start by the teacher setting off his exploding collar while all the other kids push him away fearing for his life leaving his best mate helpless with nothing to do except watch, but the Lighthouse scene is the highlight of a fantastic movie. It's full of intense-emotion and the chaos that erupts after one of the girls is accidentally poisoned is crazy as long friendships suddenly dissolve in the blink of an eye and all the girls are killed...bar the one with the poison bottle that is...

4. The boy on the surfboard in Jaws.
The theme tune is scary enough but for Spielberg that isn't enough and he has the shark kill a child, a child! It leaves you thinking "wow if the kid died then anyone can in this film!"

3. Janet Leigh in Psycho
Well I would say very shocking, but even people who haven't seen the film have seen the shower scene. What makes it great is that the whole film seems to be built around Leigh's character when suddenly every one's favorite cross-dressing psycho stabs her to death and the main character is suddenly gone. Of course having the best theme tune ever helps a little

2. Mavin in Pulp Fiction
Just hilariously unexpected. "Hey Marvin what do you make of all this? Do you think that God came down from heaven and... BANG...oh shit I think I just shot Marvin in the face"

1. John Hurt in Alien
This doesn't need any explanation surely? John Hurt is eating dinner on board the spaceship when suddenly an alien pops out of his chest. Brilliant.

Yeah, I kinda went for the real schlocky ones. I am a real gorehound.
If I were to name my top ten now, they would probably be totally different.
My top tens are generally not set in stone, merely how I feel at the time of writing.

The Scarface one is legendary though.
