The biggest story of the 2014 Wrestlemania season has undoubtedly been CM Punk quitting the WWE. Vince McMahon has said he is simply taking a“sabbatical”, but all other sources say that Punk is done with the company and isn’t coming back.
Or at least that’s what we are led to believe...
He hasn’t been seen or heard of since and for someone who loves his twitter account so much (remember the rants about the app or where he was forced to apologise to a homophobe for laying into him?)
On Monday WWE Raw rolls into Chicago, just minutes away from where Punk is hiding himself in his downtown penthouse.
Despite all indications otherwise, some corners of the IWC continue to believe that the whole Punk walkout was just a work to set up a hot angle for the Chicago Raw.
I actually think the initial walk out was real- Punk was burned out, fed up with creative and the final straw was the dropping from the WM match with HHH because creative dropped the ball with Daniel Bryan but I think maybe over the last (radio silenced) weeks have seen a shoot massaged into a work that could come to a head with Punk returning, perhaps as early as this Monday, which is the apt time for it.
Could he resist appearing in front of his passionate home town crowd? Punk and WWE will be well aware that the potential to make big money and press from all of this is right in front of them.
Punk appearing on Raw next Monday will be the biggest pop of the year. Punk not appearing... Well I have to say I'm looking forward to seeing the crowd reaction either way!
