Okay so there have been 49 Disney Animated films, not including Pixar, and here are the best...
49. Chicken Little
This was one of my favourite books growing up and Disney killed it.
48. Meet The Robinsons
Wtf is this shit?
47. The Princess and the Frog
It looks good, but I haven't seen it.
46. Fantasia 2000
No. Just no.
45. Dinosaur
Hate it.
44. The Black Cauldron
The low point of Disney.
43. Melody Time
Meh.
42. Fun and Fancy Free
Meh.
41. Make Mine Music
Meh.
40. The Three Caballeros
Not even Donald Duck can save this.
39. Saludos Amigos
Meh.
38. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Toot off.
37. Home on the Range
Go home to the range and stay there.
36. Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Just dull.
35. Treasure Planet
I always get this and the above one confused. Neither is great.
34. Oliver and Company
Remember this one? Another bad one from that dark Disney decade, the 80's.
33. Brother Bear
It's alright actually. The first decent one in the list.
32. Bolt
Bolt is very fun. I didn't include it in the top 30 because the whole plot is like Buzz's from Toy Story 1 and because it's computer animated rather than hand drawn...
31. Pocahontas
After the three amazing films prior to this, this was seen as a bit of a let down. Had the tribe been blue smurfs and been in 3D it would have done much better.... Fucking Avatar...
30. The Rescuers Down Under
It's the Rescuers, but in Australia! That's a movie waiting to happen!!....
29. The Great Mouse Detective
Another one of the less than great 80's movies.
28. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
This followed Pocahontas and wasn't much better. The trouble was the hunchback was too scary and you didn’t care what happened to him.
27. Sword in the Stone
By this point it seemed like Disney were just going through the motions. The animation even looks poor here and none of the characters very likeable and the oh-so-clever jokes by Merlin about the whole thing being turned into a film one day fall flat.
26. The Rescuers
Better than the original, but still rather forgettable. This is famous for it's one frame where the animators inserted a picture of a topless woman as an in-joke. To stop you all trying to see it yourselves, here it is.
25. Robin Hood
My mate's favourite, but he's a fucking idiot. The bear's (Little John) voice is done by the same guy who voiced Baloo in Jungle Book and is one of the voice actors I feel most sorry for. Imagine being type cast as a bear...
24. The Fox and the Hound
It’s a good film, but I can’t remember anything in it.
23. Hercules
It’s an alright movie, made good by James Wood’s pure excellence as Hades.
22. Lilo and Stitch
Great poster, great film! Stitch is an adorable monster.
21. Cinderella
It may be the most girly of all the Disney movies, but it’s still brilliant and was a great return to form for Disney after eight years of shit. Great songs, endearing mice and the most evil cat ever! Though I always thought if her shoe fits her so well that only she is the right size for it in all the land, then why did it fall off in the first place?
20. The Aristocats
Good music here and loveable main characters. A very underrated Disney film.
19. Sleeping Beauty
Another one of the famous princess ones. The abstract animation divides opinions, I like it myself and think the use of Tchaikovsky’s musical number from his Sleeping Beauty ballet (and the lyrics put to it) was a stroke of genius on the part of Disney. One thing that can’t be doubted however is the pure terrifying villain. Maleficent? Magnificent more like.
18. Fantasia
Yes it’s a work of art…. But like most praised works the truth is it’s rather dull and nobody actually wants to admit it.
17. Alice in Wonderland
Curiouser and curiouser. It may not be a faithful adaptation of Alice in Wonderland (Tweedledum and Tweedledee appear in Through The Looking Glass) but it’s very fun and totally mindfuckingly random. Superb animation.
16. Peter Pan
One of my sisters favourites. Peter Pan is very good and I know it’s wrong, but Tinkerbelle is kinda hot… By the way the song ‘Never Smile at a Crocodile’ does NOT appear in the film. The tune does, but not the song. No idea where that song came from then, but I am guessing the Disney ‘sing-a-longs’.
15. Mulan
My sisters favourite. The 00’s Disney films get a hard time, but there were some very good ones, including this. One of the better female leads this film looks great and features Eddie Murphy doing a great comic turn.
14. Tarzan
Now this film is great. Everything about it is class, Minnie Driver’s ‘Jane’ especially and Phil Collins proves that he does his best work involving gorillas by writing the excellent ‘You’ll Be In My Heart’.
13. 101 Dalmatians
This is most fondly remembered for the fantastically evil Cruella de Vill and her theme song and quite rightly so. There isn’t much else here of note, but she is such a terrific character that she carries this to greatness. “Anita, darling!” *Shudders*
12. Dumbo
Despite being in one of the shortest of all Disney films and being the only main character to never utter a word Dumbo is one of the cutest and most endearing animated characters of all time. And everyone loves to see clowns getting their asses kicked right? ‘When I See and Elephant Fly’ sung by Jim Crow and the rest of the gang is one of my favourite Disney songs due to it’s very clever lyrics.
11. The Emperor’s New Groove
Yes, seriously. I am sure all of you are wondering what the hell I am thinking by putting this so high, but go watch it and then get back to me. It’s fucking hilarious and is my favourite of them all for that reason alone.
10. The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh
This was a difficult one to place. On the one hand it’s one of the most brilliant Disney cartoons ever (even if they ripped the British heart completely out of it), but on the other it’s not really a film… Instead it’s made up of four short cartoons, not even made in the same years, or indeed decades. However all four (well the first three especially) cartoons are all amazing and every song is outstanding. It’s not a film though…
9. Lady and the Tramp
This ranks so high for two scenes. The iconic spaghetti dinner scene and the one in the hound where Peggy Lee sings “He’s a Tramp.” The ideal Disney date movie.
8. Bambi
Walt Disney’s favourite film and it’s a good one indeed. Memorable lines “You can call me Flower if you want”; “If you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” and the very sad bit where to quote Chandler from Friends “The artist stopped drawing Bambi’s Mother”.
7. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
The one that started it all is still one of the all time best.
6. Aladdin
There are lots of Disney princess movies, but this one for the boys. Iconic magic carpet scene, funny Genie, even funnier parrot, great visuals and Jasmine was very sexy…. Even more so when Jafar dresses her up in her slave outfit. Yum.
5. The Little Mermaid
Outstanding songs, great characters and a welcome return to form at last. What’s not to love?
4. The Jungle Book
A film where almost every single moment is famous. This isn’t a film, it’s Disney’s Greatest Hits! By the way python Kaa is the voice of the Cheshire Cat and Winnie The Pooh
3. The Lion King
Epic! This probably has the best story out of any Disney film and every character is wonderful, I like the hyenas myself. I saw the musical too and if you haven’t seen it, try it out. I loved it!
2. Pinocchio
Just listen to the songs alone to see how brilliant Pinocchio is. ‘Just A Little Whistle’, ‘I Have No Strings’, ‘Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee An Actors Life For Me’ and of course the Disney theme itself ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’. On top of that this film is quite sinister at times, stolen children!? But above all it’s the hand painted animation that is the star. Just watch the part after they escape from the whale to see how beautiful the painted waves are for proof of that.
1. Beauty and the Beast
It’s a perfect movie and the best Disney film ever.
49. Chicken Little
This was one of my favourite books growing up and Disney killed it.
48. Meet The Robinsons
