So I went to try and play Heavy Rain just now and got an error message saying something about an error with the trophy settings and giving me the code "8001050f". I also noted that the date had somehow been set to 01/01 0:57...
Upon googling that error code it appears to be a worldwide problem with the PSN at the moment.
I'm very annoyed about it. I don't want to play online games, I don't give a shit about trophies, I just want to play a game offline and I can't. Why couldn't Sony have just made a freaking console rather than a bugged to hell PC-lite? This would never have happened to the PSone!
I am worried that my PS3 will effected by this whenever Sony fix the farking problem. It already erased all my Heavy Rain trophies and I fear it may have deleted other stuff too.
Also some people are saying that their downloaded PSN games have turned into demos..... very strange.
The PS3 community is going crazy about this online with people all over the world getting it!
Hopefully it will be sorted out soon, although I just read a comment from someone who called up the helpline say it may be a virus and that they will replace any consoles under warranty. Either way I am going to leave my other PS3 off for a while as I don't want to lose all my data for that one too..

edit: Sony have now posted on Twitter that they are looking into it. Their helpline's say it's down for service maitenence, which it blatantly a lie because why would everybody themes be corrupted then?
Their website simply says and I honestly quote "get flash and/or enable javascript and stop wasting my time." Haha, wtf?
Most people's clocks have been set to the 31st of December 1999.... so maybe it's the Milenium Bug lol?

Oddly enough this only affects the "chunky" ps3's. All slims are unaffected by this.
Its got something to do with the calendar and Sony are well aware of the error. They hope to have it fixed within the next 24 hours. Still it's a huge piss-take as I was going to finish my first play through of heavy rain tonight. I'm fucking pissed off.

Just a note to everyone; do NOT turn on your PS3's if you haven't been affected yet. Sony do not know what the problem is, but are advising people to not risk turning their consoles on.
I too want to play Heavy Rain ffs.

wow, this sounds like something I would have expected out of the 360s.
Still, 3 days or so without a system isn't nearly as bad as getting the fatal red ring of death, having to pay for the repairs, and then having the system break down again 6 months later.

Well after 24 hours the PSN system is back up and running. The problem was because some moron at Sony programmed all the old consoles to think that 2010 was a leap year and then they all got confused when the internet was telling them otherwise....

Some day, the machines will win. nonsense. Just remember to start killing the machines once they start asking what the meaning of life is. Of course, by typing this into a machine they should instinctively realize that it's a question that will get themselves killed and thus not ask it. Good going Somar, the one chance humanity had has been blown.
