I on the other hand am loving every minute. I never thought they would answer all the questions, but they've damn near solved everything this season. The only real question I have is about Walt and his powers....and I still think they will solve that one somehow.

I enjoyed the latest episode. They killed off most of the interesting characters on the island, so doing the flashback for Jacob and the Man in Black was pretty interesting.
In regards to Flyers' post, I've been confused watching Lost since the pilot episode. Why stop now?

Caught up this week. Has noone considered that Smoke is the good guy? Works for me... Certainly not at the beginning of the episode. When he was born, he was color-coded with black attire, meaning he was the odds on favorite to be the evil brother. Only in rare occasions in Hollywood is a good guy allowed to wear the color black (Batman, James Dean, John T. Booker, the Black Ranger to name a few) and in many cases (e.g. The Punisher) black attire is used to suggest moral ambiguity (which would be more easily displayed by grey but Hollywood is dumb), or that the character is a little bit dangerous or, at the very least, a black private dick that's a sex machine to all the chicks. However, as the episode progressed and as the Man in Black learned how his biological mother was killed and he was punched in the face and sold out by his brother, I began to sympathize with him. And when Jacob pulled the "then why do you love him more than me?" card out of nowhere, that really pushed me to Johnny Cash's side. How do you get off asking that? She gave you a name! And an outfit that doesn't insinuate you're the bad guy! You're the preferred son, guy. Certainly nothing we've seen from "Smokey" over the course of the series would suggest he's a good guy, however. It wouldn't make sense to me, but this is Lost, so I would say absolutely, he will end up the good guy in the end.

I think that's the twist, lame as it is. I mean, he's more of a tortured soul than a heel. He has a moral awareness and has judged people in the past who refuse to repent (ie. Eko). Maybe he's like old testament god, all spiteful and vengeful. And he seems to do alot more to protect the island than Jacob ever has. All blondey does is pick people from America and Korea to come to his house, imprisons them there and ruins their lives. He's kind of an asshole, and yes, he got a name.
Anyway, Smoke is a good guy. It's the sort of dumb shit I think JJ Abrams loves, making the big twist something so unexpected that it's almost irrelevant to the series.

In the Old Testament, Jacob's twin brother was Esau, who was born first, and later sold his birthright to Jacob in exchange for a bowl of lentil soup. This was on the day their grandad Abraham snuffed it, when Jacob exploited the fact that Esau was a bit peckish that day, and vulnerable to deception. When Esau realised he'd been screwed over, he threw a fit and threatened to kill Jacob. He then ran away, sired five sons, and returned with an army to exact revenge on Jacob a few years later. Jacob though, the sly old fox he was, ended up sticking an arrow through his brother's throat and enslaving his nephews. Forever. Sound familiar? Well if this is how Lost is gonna end, then I'm gonna sell my soul for a plate of doner meat and chips. With cheese sauce.

Esau seems to be the most commonly used name for the Man In Black online and has been since the season finale last year. It kind of works though apart from Jacob being born first of course. I really wanted their Mum to be called Rachel to continue the biblical themes, but maybe that was too obvious even for them?
There are a lot of religious references in the show from all kinds of cultures which is kinda cool I guess.
Anybody else think the Man In Black is NOT Smokey though? Well know that Locke is not the smoke monster and that our John Locke was killed, but was the Main In Black killed as well? I know it looks as though the smoke monster was created when "Esau" slid into the light, but what if he was always around? I ask this due to the moment where he saw his dead Mum. Could it be that Smokey took his form and then tricked MIB into trying to leave the island? I know Smokey's actions in present day and desperation to leave the island seem consistent with MIB's motivations, but it could be. The dead people on the island turning up are one of the shows big weaknesses.
Lets run through the dead people who have turned up;
-Christian Shepherd. Dead body was on the island unburied = Smokey. Fair enough. -Yemi. Dead body was on the island and unburied = Smokey. Fair enough. -Alex in the temple to Ben. Also died on the island and it's very unlikely that she was buried so = Smokey. Fair enough.
Things then got stranger....
-Christian on the boat to Michael. I guess this was the smoke monster, but how did he get off the island? -Richard's wife in the black rock. Now this one does appear to be Smokey, which means that he can imitate anybody from your past life after he does that scanning thing it did to Eko. -Richard's wife to Hurley. Now this one appears to actually be her ghost. -Charlie/Ana Lucia/Libby off island etc- I guess these people where also actually them and for some reason they wanted the castaways to go back to the island... -Ben's Mum. Could this be smokey again? I have no idea who it would be, but it lead him to Richard and the others. Michael- Told Hurley that he is dead. We assume it's him, but it would be a neat twist if it wasn't and it was Smokey all along luring Hurley towards him. Jacob- Appears to be the real Jacob, but dunno. Young Jacob- Jacob again? Smokey and Sawyer saw him while Richard didn't. Jacob/MIB's Mum- The real Mum it seems. Jacob couldn't see him, MIB could.
-Dave. Hurley's imaginary friend Dave appeared and tried to get Hurley to kill himself, could that have been smokey trying to kill someone on Jacob's list? -Walt. I have no idea who/what the Walt visions are.... he isn't even dead either! -Sayid/Claire- They died...we think....not sure what happened here. -Kate's horse/Sayid's "Nadia" cat. No idea either.
Also Hurley, Sawyer and MIB can see the dead while Jack, Jacob and Richard can not. Miles can hear their last thoughts and seemed to know that Claire had been "claimed" by Smokey too. Miles was born on the island so could have his powers from there. Why others have powers and some don't though I haven't got a Scooby's.

Final episode is on at 5am Monday morning here, to coincide with the US screening. Do they really think people care so much to get up at that ungodly hour just so I don't read a spoiler online. FFS, the only loose ends left in this show are the ones unravelled in this season. Last night's episode was one of the shittest ever. Roll on Tuesday night when I watch it on Sky plus.

It's not being synched here. We're waiting two or three days to show it. I can hold out. Honestly haven't cared much about Lost since they started with the filler episodes of S3. But it's there... I've kept watching. Feel obliged to see it to the end... kind of like an old friend I no longer care for getting married. We've strung it out, I'll go to the ceremony... and we'll never see each other again.

The last episode was freaking fantastic! Miles especially was a hoot!
"What is that, a secret-er room?"
"These both sound like great plans, but I'm going to have to go with surviving."
"Miles, I lived in these barracks for years. I know where I am going." "Well I lived in them 30 years before you....otherwise known as last week... and I have no idea where we are."
Season 3 was such a low point. Ping Pong, Nikki/Paolo, Jack's Tattoos, but the end of that series was simply phenomenal and it's never looked back since really and has been fantastic.

Finally it'll come to an end, I miss Sayid (that does not include Zombie Sayid), season 1-3 Sawyer, Locke's crazy catchphrases and Lapidus's hair. The four major elements of the show's success.

I'm watching the finale now and am confused; since when did Locke become heel of the show and immune to bullets? I haven't watched an episode since the season 2 finale, and while I can barely remember what happened in it, Locke was a fan favourite holy man... this drastic change in character makes me believe I should watch season 3-6 (unless they're light-switch character changes like Lex Luthor in Smallville being heroic in one episode and in the next torturing innocent people).

I'm hoping 24 is, as I have not watched this new season at all but plan on watching the series finale tonight.
