So it's Summerslam again, the 'biggest PPV of the Summer!' as the WWE like to call it sometimes, which is no small feat as the seem to have 20 PPV's every summer these days. But in the build-up to Summerslam I thought to myself "hey, where did the King of the Ring go this year?" I have always been a fan of the KOTR and was so glad when they brought it back last year. I feel that the event although lacking in great matches in the past (with the exception of Foley vs Taker and Angle vs Shane McMahon) has given us some great wrestling moments ("Austin 3:16 says I just whooped you ass!") as well as helping get some wrestlers really over such as Austin, Angle, Lesnar Owen and last years Booker T who has positively thrived since doing the 'King' gimmick. Imagine other wrestlers who could get a big push from it such as Punk, Carlito, Burke, MVP etc... I also feel that the KOTR is an ideal way to build towards Summerslam in the same way that the Royal Rumble is an ideal way to build towards Wrestlemania. I just don't understand why it has gone this year now that every PPV features both brands and the success of 'King' Booker. Maybe it was dropped so it wouldn't get in the way of 'King' Booker vs 'The King of Kings' HHH? But whatever the reason why not drop the consistently terrible PPV the Great American Bash and replace with with a PPV with a great history and tradition that fans actually care about? Bah, who knows. I miss KOTR

I concur.
However, you neglected to mention the classic Taker v HBK cell match of 1997, when Kane debuted. They definitely should ditch the Bash and bring back KOTR. That's one PPV I would order, and I would guess many others would also.

I think KOTR was brought back only to give Booker a new gimmick and god knows it's a shit one too. It annoys the hell out of me and I just want to punch Sharmell in the face when she does that awful english accent.
I agree though, they should ditch a PPV, although I don't think it should be GAB. In my opinion it should be Vengance. To me it's make more sense to have the PPV in june leaving a big build up in time for Summerslam.

Or they could just move Vengeance back a month and still ditch the Bash... If they are intent on using an old WCW gimmick PPV they should resurrect Halloween Havoc, instead of those shitty Taboo Tuesdays etc. Or even better... WARGAMES.

I'm against the GAB being ditched, it has alot of history to it. I think Vengeance would be the perfect PPV to ditch, it's been a bit pants for the last few years and it is the PPV which replaced the KOTR.
As for bringing back Halloween Havoc, I think it'd be a great idea. Cyber Sunday is the one of the worst ideas for a PPV, although TNA's Lockdown beats it. I think a War Games PPV is needed, just incorp the match into Survivor Series yearly.

Yeah, top idea. Main event should always be WarGames.
Oh I could think up some dream five-on-five matchups, none of which include Cena, but I guess he has a free pass to every main event for the next three years at least. Why does he never get injured?
You just watch, Cena turns heel, just as I wish, and then he tears a quad and sits out the year...

Lol. I'd never wish it normally but Cena needs to be injured. Although I beg the question what would the main event on Raw be like without him?
Wargames is the ultimate Survivor match thats why it should be on the Survivor Series - Pay Per View. It's only right plus imo the Elimination Chamber just isn't the same, no matter what WWE says.

Metal- Taker vs Foley was at Badd Blodd 97.
I wouldn't mind Vengeance being dropped, but the GAB is infamously bad. The first GAB is regarded as one of the worst PPV's ever and the WWE's GAB's have been terrible. JBL as world champion... (though to be fair he did grow on me...) Backlash though is pretty good imo.
In an ideal world there would just be 12 PPV's at most, but that won't ever happen now. The problem with so many PPV's these days for me is that they all blend in to one. I have no idea what happened at No Mercy 05 or Judgement Day 04.
I think the Wargames idea would work well, it would help make the SSeries interesting for the first time since 04. Also I think that the Elimination Chamber should be used on New Year's Revolution.

Metal- Taker vs Foley was at Badd Blodd 97. Taker v Foley was at KOTR 98, it was the HBK match I was reminiscing about, and yeah you are right, it was at Bad Blodd We were both wrong, but I confess my wrestling memory leaves a lot to be desired. The last three or four years may have blended in for you, Woo, but for me it's been the last FIFTEEN years that's a blur... WarGames owns Elimination Chamber, and should be resurrected, but it never will because WWE's creation is "superior" to all who came before it.

I'd love to see War Games back! But it wouldn't be the original version. We all know Vince hates using WCW concepts (remember his assassination of the NWO?), so IF he did use War Games it would probably look totally different....that's not to say he shouldn't! Whatever version he were to use it would still be entertainin' as hell!
