This phrase THE AGE OF ORTON was once a cheesy and rather laughable concept only last year. But this year, Randy Orton has elevated himself to a level not seen since Jake Roberts classic heel run of the early 90s. Back then, Jake's psychopathic portrayal somehow managed to turn professional heel Randy Savage into one of the year's top babyfaces. Today, as I pointed out in my DX thread, Orton has managed a feat of comparable magnitude, and turned Triple H into a convincing crowd favourite. This breathtaking turn by Randy just gets more intense and interesting each week. The culmination at the climax of this week's Raw was a masterclass in demented heeldom, as he brought a dramatic end to John Cena's crowd-popping interference after the main event. Orton's star is the highest ever right now, and is easily the hottest heel in wrestling today. I'm actually enjoying watching wrestling again.

Orton bandwagon is getting bigger!!
I've really been enjoying his stuff as of lately, he's very good at playing a coward in order to get what he wants. My gf watches Raw sometimes and always tells me that Orton is a prick. He must be doing his job correctly.

I couldn't disagree any stronger.
Randy Orton's best run was at the tail end of 07 and the start of 08. His feud with Jeff Hardy and Matt by proxy was one of the best feuds in recent memory and would surely have won feud of the year votes had it not been for Y2J vs HBK.
Sadly it didn't last long as HHH, Cena and Batty had to have that belt instead. However he then he formed a stable with Cody, Dibaise and Manu and the seeds seemed to set for an awesome feud with CM Punk, but instead they went with Mr McMahon and it was a fantastic, fantastic segment as Orton punted his head. They did later do the stupid home invasion angle but after attacking Steph once more Orton was red hot again.
However since Mania Orton and his cronies has been booked like shit, made to look extremely weak against HHH, Cena, Flair and he even dropped the belt to Batty despite the fact that the WWE knew he was injured going it and that he'd have to drop the title the next night.
I think the age of Orton has already come and gone and had his balls cut off so many times it's stupid. Also add in the fact that Orton vs Cena SHOULD have headlined wrestlemania so many times in a one on one match, especially last year.

Well, you are right, Orton had a great run a couple of years ago, Woo, but this latest shaven headed incarnation is villainous beyond belief. I reckon he has shaken off the greenhorn pretender-to-the-throne persona of that era, and stepped right into Triple H's boots to become the best heel I've seen in WWE for many years.
Sure, there is still the cowardice portion of that persona, but in no way does it dominate over the guy's supreme confidence backstage and in non-match segments within the ring. The cowardice facade is simply used as a means to an end illustrated perfectly by the aforementioned destruction of Cena on Raw this week. He uses it to great effect to lure his victims into a false sense of security...
...Christ what a mark thing to say...
...but I see it, and genuinely do mark for it. He seems to have perfected the sly, twisted, almost perverted method by which he stalks his prey, seeming to actually get off on the way he lines them up for the inevitable RKO. I think Randy Orton has shown a main event attitude towards being a heel and the guy's inevitable fall from grace will be extremely interesting to see.
I think you're slightly undervaluing his creative and athletic dominance right now, Woo.

The best heel in the WWE in years? He's good, but I wouldn't even say he's the best in the WWE at the moment what with Punk's epically amazing heel run and Jericho's continued rise into a wrestling deity. That said I just saw this. Lovely!

I'd give him the top three in the E, but do you not watch SD? Punk has been out of this world.
And that is Rob Terry in my sig.

Punk is becoming a fine heel I agree, but he has only just turned only weeks ago, and has many heinous acts to perpetrate before he reaches Orton's level of notoriety. Punk is definitely the most interesting and genuine character in WWE at the moment. Watching him turn from crowd favourite to despised icon without really changing his personality has been interesting in that it's only really the fans' polarization of him that's changed. That, and of course his beatdowns on Jeff over the past few weeks.
