I think I may have caught it. I'm breaking out in rashers all over.
Sorry, couldn't resist that one.

Lol. They reckon by september 4 in 10 people in the world will have it. This is going to be awesome, it's about time we had a flu pandemic to kill off the old timers who just dont know when to stop hanging on.

So the ancient Mayan prediction of 2012 is still looking good.
I think Swine Flu is a fucking great name for a disease.

it's about time we had a flu pandemic to kill off the old timers who just dont know when to stop hanging on. Actually it is different to seasonal flu which tends to kill off the elderly. Influenza viruses seen in pandemics usually are more deadly and virilent in young adults. Looks like we've all shit it... well except for me who has access to antivirals at work when I get back next week. So long suckers!

So far everyone who has contracted in the UK and Europe have recovered well. It appears the only place where it's actually causing death is Mexico where antivirals aren't readily available.
None the less the next few months are going to fun.

I love how the pork industry is trying to get people to stop calling it swine flu because it looks bad on their product. Isreal is now calling it the Mexico flu; apparently pigs are higher up on the social caste than mexicans are.
There was a couple who got it a little ways from where i live, and they found out they had it and then went to the casino because "no one told them they shouldn't go out in public." Everytime i think the intelligence of the people in my country has hit rock bottom, the floor opens up and a whole new kind of stupid is revealed.

So two and a half months later and swine flu seems less funny...
Isn't it 25 people dead now? Anybody know anyone who caught it?

My cousin has had it actually. He said that the side effects from Tamiflu were worse than how he felt from the flu. To keep it in perspective- the vast majority of deaths were in people who had serious underlying health conditions.

Yeah it's all been blown very out of proportion. The advice they've been handing out is stupid.
Tbh the few cases I've seen have been no worse than normal flu. Sure it'll mutate and evolve but the vaccine they are working on is prepared for that.

I was quarantined a couple of weeks ago, suspected of having it. They tested me for everything from Spanish Flu to being a Swine. Came back negative on all counts... well, physically. I am a pig of a man...
Turned out to be secondary bronchitis.
Now, what shits me about this whole dilemma is that the media turned up the heat on the story from the start. They took this flu, which had the potential to mutate into something dangerous, and claimed it as dangerous from the get go. They rang alarm bells at a death toll which was hardly even comparable with the victims of Influenza A. And ultimately, they never sought to calm those jittery media minions as the severity (lack thereof) of this flu became more apparent. I am a strong detractor of both Australian education (re: people's ability to think rationally and independently) and the fear driven media style (re: rarely putting news stories into perspective) of the majority of the reporting industry in this country. I suspect that the British and Americans have been subject to exactly the same terror mongering.
This is a flu which has the potential to become dangerous. It is presently of notable danger to pregnant women (whom have bodies already under a level of duress). It is also a notable euthaniser of people with severe underlying health issues. Australia accounts for a large proportion of the worldwide total of confirmed cases (more than 10% last time I heard). For all those people who have died from swine flu in Australia (I don't have the figures but I believe it to be less than 50) ALL have had some other medical complication. I have not heard of a single death in an entirely fit and healthy 18-50 year old.
Given this the airtime it has recieved has only been outdone by the abysmal public backflip which was the response to Michael Jackson's death. I do not say that either of these issues is worthless for reporting. But I do wish the media and public would get a grip on themselves before running off on a truthless tangent. Objectivity is never 100% possible. Even so, there is no reason we shouldn't make it the bar. Afterall, what could we lose by doing so?

It reminds me of Mr. MacDaddy's awesome post many moons ago- "BIRD FLU- HOW LONG TILL WE DIE?!" So good, it doesn't need a punchline. I thought my sister had it last week, but it was not the case although someone at her school did catch it. My gran got it though. She's fine now however. I saw a lady in London wearing a surgical mask, in what I assume was an effort to avoid catching it. So I went up to her and coughed in her face Turns out she was just a terrorist who had released harmful chemicals into the air. How we laughed over the misunderstanding.

Lmfao. That's amazing.
Medical masks wont do shit against most airbourne infections. I love how people think they will.
Turns out my ex and her mum have got it. Couldn't happen to better people imo.

Who couldn't stay friends with someone who owes you thousands of pounds then claims to their solicitor that they dont know you all because you have left the country. Like THAT was going to work.
