Watch that video! How good were the New Age Outlaws? They weren't great in the ring, but Road Dogg was probably the 3rd most popular guy on the roster behind Rock and Austin and it was to do with his catchphrases.
That got me thinking of all the great catchphrases that people like to say along with the wrestlers such as "And that's the bottom line.....coz Stone Cold said so!" "You will never- eeeeeeeeeeever be the same again!" and every single thing that the Rock said.
So why is it that nobody today really has a catchphrase anymore? Yes Taker says "Rest in Peace" and Cena says "You can't see me" but I can't think of much more. Also them are the two most popular people in the WWE, coincidence?
Seriously I am struggling to think of much more. Angle has his horrible "It's real. It's damn real" which sucks, Booker has a few and Vince says "You're fired" a fair bit, but it seems like no wrestlers since the Attitude era have any, which sucks. Shelton Benjamin is probably the best wrestler in the WWE but never gets a push due to his lack of charisma and microphone skills. So give him a catchphrase! Look what happened to the Kama when he jumped aboard the "Hooooooo train" or Leif Cassidy when he dumped the new Rockers gimmick and worked out "...what everybody wants!"- "Head"
I dunno if it's because every promo has been scripted over the last 4 or so years and so the wrestlers themselves can't invent one or if the WWE are moving away from catchphrases for some reason, but it sucks! So WWE, TNA come we want catchphrases! And if you're not down with that I have two words for you...
