Hi everyone. My name is MetalBlade. I am a 36 year old married guy and live in the UK.
Here is an insight into my biggest love except my wife - METAL!!!
Basically I have been a metalhead since my school days over 20 years ago, and my tastes in music have changed over the years so much that I am once again listening to shit I was listening to when I was 16...
I began listening to Status Quo, Meat Loaf and Motorhead, as my mum used to be a biker and had loads of biker mates who used to come round and party with all their music. From there I discovered other bands like Van Halen, Iron Maiden and Saxon - all of which I lapped up with all the enthusiasm you would expect from a 14 year old adolescent.
At 16 years old I discovered the mighty Venom on a compilation album. That was the most important discovery of my life. In discovering Venom, I also ended up crossing paths with fans of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax - the four staples of thrash back in the mid eighties.
My dad bought me a drum kit for my 18th birthday, and I spent a few years bashing about in various local bands.
From then on thrash - and later death metal became my first love. I simply had to see every band, buy every record and wear every shirt. It became an obsession!
Then about 1992, I regrettably got sucked into the grunge vacuum, and did not really listen to much metal for a number of years. During that time I was smoking a lot of cannabis, and even the odd LSD trip - nothing stronger though. This led me to start experimenting with music, and I began listening to crap like Oasis, The Prodigy and The Stone Roses.
It felt like I was in a rut. during the years 1993-1998 I went to a grand total of TWO gigs - Body Count and Pink Floyd, both in the same year, 1994. Then in 1994, I met my future wife, and found we shared a lot of the same interests in music, but still, I found it hard to escape the grunge/indie trap.
I can basically trace my newfound love of metal back to a single moment in 1998 - seeing a video of Judas Priest's Burn In Hell, with new vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens. It blew me away! It sparked something inside me which I had not felt since that fateful day in 1986 when I heard Venom's At War With Satan for the first time.
I had known Halford had left Judas Priest, but hadn't really paid any attention to it, having been in a drug-induced stupor for most of the early to mid-90's. But this song was incredible, and the next day I went out and bought the Jugulator album - and that started the ball rolling all over again.
I began buying records again (well, CD's to be fair), and going to gigs again. I fell in love with metal all over again, and it's just gone from strength to strength since then. I got married last year, and now I go to at least a gig a month, and go to the famous Wacken Open Air festival in Germany every August.
Being a metalhead again feels great, and I thought you guys would like to share my metal story, and maybe draw some comparison's with your own journeys through music.
I hope you found something interesting in my little autobiography.

Hi, I'm Layne, I'm 19 - so one foot in the grave already - I enjoy music, television, video games and the internet. Yes I am a male in real life, although I'm told by Xenite that I come across as a girl. Stupid Xen. Anywho, I live somewhere in the southwest of England, my favourite band are Alice in Chains and my favourite TV show is Dead Like Me. I am currently trying to make a living from writing. Nice to meet all of you strangers.
